I Need A Nikka Costa Fix

Funky lady (I mean that in a good way) Nikka Costa's new album won't be out until May 24, but until then you can download the single "I Don't Think We've Met" from iTunes. Download it now, 'cause there's a rumor it might not make the final release.

Want more? Ok. Nikka does vocals on "Here Comes the Fuzz" by Mark Ronson. Nice.

Whenever I listen to the cover "Come on Eileen" by Save Ferris, it puts a smile on my face. Everytime. It just makes me feel happy. Too bad iTunes doesn't have it, but Amazon does.

Be A Better Human

When I was a teen, I remember reading a poem that was attributed to Mother Teresa. I read it, was inspired, and promptly forgot about it. Much later, I tried to look it up again because I couldn't quite recall how it went. Couldn't find it. Tried searching on and off for years, still couldn't find it. Then along came Google.

Anyway, I discovered it's not really a poem and Mother Teresa didn't write it. Check out The Paradoxical Commandments by Dr. Kent M. Keith. It has something to do with strength of character and doing good regardless of external circumstances. Read. It's inspiring and kinda depressing at the same time.

You can buy Dr. Keith's books on his site, but unless you want an autographed copy, you can get them cheaper on Amazon.

Where Is Aimee Allen?

Whoa, I've been busy busy the past few days. It involves grout and caulk. Anyhoo... back to the blog.

Anybody remember the TV show Birds of Prey? I remember hearing the theme song and thinking <surfer>"Dude, bonus!"</surfer> So I googled and discovered Aimee Allen. <surfer>"Bonus!"</surfer> I wanted to hear more Aimee, but wait! Her album wasn't released yet. So I waited. And waited. And waaaaaited. It's been a few years and still no album. <surfer>"Dude, bogus."</surfer> I don't know why her label is sitting on the album; I think she's getting screwed over.

I've been visiting Aimee's official sites for news, AimeeAllen.com and The Scott and Aimee Project, but no love. I've been searching the net but nothing. It's like she dropped of the face of the earth. If anybody knows something, anything, leave a comment, let us know.

In the meantime, you can download some legal mp3's from Ozone Recording. You can get more mp3's here, kinda iffy legally. Be sure to check out "In The Sun". Is muy bueno.

Now For Some Punk

My taste in music is kinda eclectic, I like all kinds. I listen to diffenent styles depending on my mood. Today is a punk day. I think I'll go with The Distillers. The earlier stuff is hard-core punk. Their latest album Coral Fang is a little more mainstream, but it still rocks. One of my favorites on Coral Fang is "The Hunger". It starts out slow, then ARHHH! On Sing Sing Death House my fave is "City of Angels" and on The Distillers it's "Oh Serena".

I Want To Be A Ninja On TV!

Man, I've been away from Canada too long. Just found out about this show, ZeD. Send in your short films, animations, music performance, whatever. And if you're lucky, they'll put your stuff on TV, eh? TV for the people, by the people. It's shows like this that make me miss Canadian TV.

Get Naked

... Bif Naked, that is. Don't be scared off by this tattooed Canadian. She can really sing, not just pop-punk and rock, but ballads too. With lyrics witty and deep, she'll make you laugh and cry. Your soul will soar... oh, nevermind. Just go to iTunes and check her out. "Lucky" on I Bificus is one of my favorite ballads.

Free MP3's, Eh?

I've been feeling a little nostalgic for and listening to 80's music lately. Remember the name Jane Child? Even if you don't, you'll probably know a couple of her songs: Welcome To the Real World and Don't Wanna Fall In Love. This classically trained Canadian plays all the instruments on her albums (it's what I've heard). Jane has free MP3's on her official web site. Or if you're feeling supportive, buy her albums.

Canadian Rock Babe

Sass Jordan rocks so hard! I swear, I love her SO MUCH!! Umm... just give me a second to compose myself... there. I don't know why she isn't more well known outside Canada. She's beautiful (or rather, FREAKIN HOT). She can sing (IMHO better than her fellow Quebecois Celine Dion). She's a nice person (at least in my dreams). Come on, what's not to like? See and listen for yourself at SassJordan.com. If you like Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge, or Nikka Costa, you'll like... no, LOVE Sass Jordan. And if you can receive Canadian TV broadcasts, she's one of the judges on Canadian Idol.

I don't know if I can recommend just one or two of my favorite songs. You know how in some CD's there are only one or two good songs and the rest is filler? Not in Sass Jordan albums. They're all good. They all ROCK! Too bad iTunes only has two of Sass's albums. And if you buy from Amazon.com, you'll have to buy used or pay import prices.

How About Some Trip-Hop?

As I'm sitting here watching American Idol, I'm wondering why don't they feature music styles other than pop? How 'bout a punk theme week? Maybe some metal or trip-hop? Oh well. Speaking of trip-hop, I got a promo email from Mp3.com (before they were neutered) featuring "Smile" by Olive. Very chill. Also check out their cover of 10cc's "I'm Not In Love".
